Sushma Swaraj''s karva chauth forces Advani's route change
BJP veteran LK Advani's Jan Chetana Yatra will not roll through Vidisha, a big saffron bastion in Madhya Pradesh and the constituency of the leader of the Opposition, Sushma Swaraj. The route of Advani's yatra was changed after Swaraj said she would be observing Karva Chauth on October 15 in Delhi. Since Advani was to reach Vidisha on October 15, and because it's inconceivable for his rath to cross a BJP constituency without its sitting MP, the yatra will now skip Vidisha.
"The rath enters Madhya Pradesh on October 13 and the LoP is expected to join the journey on October 16 during the concluding session here, just before the cavalcade leaves for Maharashtra," said state BJP president Prabhat Jha.
"We had to change the yatra route because the rath cannot travel through a constituency without its elected BJP MP. And since Karwa Chauth is a revered annual festival for married women, Swaraj has the right to celebrate it with her family members," Jha added.
Advani's rath will now leave Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on October 13 and enter MP at four pm the same day through Hanumana in Rewa district. He will address a public meeting in Satna the same night, accompanied by confidante Ananth Kumar and state BJP honchos.
The day after Karva Chauth, Advani will address a public rally in Bhopal and fly to Chhindwara. On October 17, the caravan leaves MP for Nagpur in Maharashtra. Sushma is expected to join Advani on the dais during the public meeting there.
Vidisha has elected BJP stalwarts like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1991 and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan five times. But despite being a BJP stronghold, Vidisha will not be a part of Advani's yatra for good governance and clean politics.
