  'Highway' - Movie Review by
            -- Parvez Chowdhary

Imtiaz Ali proved his abilities at box office with his back to back hit entertainers like "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal". He set new definitions for romantic entertainers with his excellent music sense but he completely shocked the industry with his brilliant film "Rockstar" though it was dud at box office but highly acclaimed by film critics and almost swept numerous awards in many departments.

This time Imtiaz gambled differently. He courageously went ahead with very complicated script which is difficult to impress every section of the society but certainly for film critics and multiplex audience. I am little cynical to use the word multiplex audience because these days even regular audience seeking for creative off beat subjects which can break the traditional barriers. As far as "Highway" is concerned it is brilliantly made film. Technically out standing, full marks to cinematographer Anil Mehta, mesmerizing locations, right from Rajasthan to Tibet, intelligently written script, above all mind blowing performances.

After watching Alia Bhat in her debut film in a very bubbly role sure she will surprise you with her scintillating performance. It is sure life time role for any young actress. After leaving the cinema hall still she will haunt you with her astonishing performance. Talented Randeep Hooda got fantastic opportunity to explore his hidden acting energy which he utilized nicely. You may like or feel exhausted this subject but you can't avoid appreciating these two main protagonists. Absolutely they are at their best and beyond imaginations.

As far as story is concerned, very simple. Veera Tripathi(Alia Bhat) is daughter of highly influenced Richest businessman Tripathi's daughter. She was about to get married but one fateful day while she went out for some fresh air with her fiance, when they reached a petrol station, some robbers while robbing station they took Veera along with them without knowing who she is but Mahabir Bhati (Randeep Hooda) took risk to kidnap her to demand money from her rich papa. Here what will happen and why Veera does't want to return home and how can she fall in love with a notorious criminal is well established by Imtiaz.

Here important point we should't forget the way director handled the child abuse issue, really amazing. Such a sensitive issue was brilliantly incorporated with main theme of the story. Certainly director deserves great appreciation for his outstanding work. Oscar winner AR Rehman once again at his best. His melodious numbers are already chart busters and his back ground score really enhanced the emotional and thrilling scenes astoundingly.

Movie has some brilliant sparks in second half. It is a must watch film for those who loves different flicks. I do't know how it fares at Box Office but I am confident enough to say this year also Imtiaz will collect many awards. It is brilliant film and let us welcome more talent in Bollywood.

Verdict : ***1/2
